This is a perfect example of the importance of knowing your rights. Never be afraid to politely and respectfully say NO to unlawful searches. It is your right as an American (and should be as a human being anywhere). In the United States of America, without your permission, or a warrant, they can not legally search you or your vehicle. Yet.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. ~ US Constitution Article IV
There is no excuse for this officer’s deplorable, unprofessional behavior, and in my opinion he doesn’t deserve to wear that uniform. His actions are a disgrace to all law enforcement officers everywhere and I were a member of that fraternity I would be outraged by his reflection on me.
With that kind of attitude toward the people he is sworn to protect and the laws he is sworn to uphold, is it any wonder so many people have no respect for law enforcement personnel anymore? I know not all cops are bad cops, but the prevailing attitude appears to trend toward this guy than “Officer Friendly”.
