Among the people I have admired are many astronauts, those bravest of man- and womankind who push the limits of machines and humanity while reaching for the stars.
Space flight related accidents have killed 22 astronauts since the inception of the American space program, and an even larger number of ground crew members have given their lives to the cause. We should never forget any of them or the contributions their sacrifices made to the advancement of science and our understanding of the cosmos. Continue reading The Final Frontier

Last week’s Supreme Court decision, effectively giving Monsanto and other megacorporations the power to buy our senators and representatives in Congress really threw me into a tailspin. I’ve seen this thing coming for months now, but I don’t think I ever really allowed myself to consider this outcome a possibility. After all, even my nine year old knows the difference between living things and those that aren’t. The whole fiasco was simply inconceivable until it actually happened.
The idiots who applauded this decision were quick to point out that labor unions were included in this ruling, but seriously, when was the last time organized labor actually stood on equal footing with big business? That’s like sending Pee Wee Herman into a boxing ring to fight Mike Tyson; no contest. Continue reading America, This Is Your Wake Up Call

Today the Supreme Court handed over what remained of our electoral process to corporate America. One dollar = one vote; from here on out that’s how it is.
The grand experiment is over: we failed. Ours is now the least democratic excuse for democracy in the entire world. What the fuck is wrong with us? Why aren’t people [...] . . . → Read More: Supreme Betrayal . . . → Read More: Supreme Betrayal
I Just Love That New Book Smell
I’ve always been the inquisitive sort; never satisfied with common knowledge or being told what, where, and when; I prefer to know how and why too. This facet of my personality manifests in many ways, none more prominent than my near obsession with books and reading. I am quite literally “book poor” – my house if overflowing with them. The fact that I’m married to a hopeless bibliophile just adds to the used bookstore atmosphere of our home. Continue reading I Just Love That New Book Smell
