THINK!!!

“These are my ideas. They constitute a part of myself. I cannot divest myself of them, nor would I if I could. And if you think that one can crush out these ideas that are gaining ground more and more every day; if you think you can crush them out by sending us to the gallows; if you would once more have people suffer the penalty of death because they have dared to tell the truth–and I defy you to show that we have told a lie–if death is the penalty for proclaiming the truth, then I will proudly and defiantly pay the costly price.” – August Spies, October 9, 1886.

Health Reform, A Parting Shot

I was talking with one of my team members at work the other day (are they still co-workers if I can fire them?), right after Congress passed that empty pile of shit they called health care reform. Obama and the Democratic majority alluded to real reforms, single-payer health care, and change on their way to getting elected. What we got was an immediate sell out to the big money that still rules the world – selfish greed run amok. I doubt I’ll ever vote for anyone in either major party ever again, but that diatribe is for another day.

Uncle Sam’s Asylum

I’ve essentially kept my mouth shut during most of the health care debate because the issue is so large and there are plenty of other bloggers and commentators already saying what I believe – that access to good, basic health care is a fundamental human right – and making the case for a single-payer, universal system much more eloquently than I can.

Single-payer got auctioned off within the first hundred days of the Obama administration, so a strong public option has been the best any of us could hope for throughout most of the process. Not the right answer, but it’s at least a step in the right direction.

The critters in the House passed a reform bill over the weekend that turns out to be pretty lame, and to make matters worse, an anti-abortion amendment got passed with it. I’m a man, so my opinion on that subject is pretty irrelevant outside of my immediate family. What you or your wife or your daughter does to your/their body is none of my business unless the fetus involved was created with my assistance – and I should have put a little more thought into it before hand if we’re having THAT conversation, but that’s another post.
